The Cautes of Trier was discovered during archaeological excavations carried out by the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage since February 2023 on the site of the future main fire station on Südallee, which could be the first mithraeum found in Trier.

The limestone relief, 1.20 metres high, is currently [February 2023] in the restoration workshops of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum.
